Customer project Amstrad 7070 cassette lid
Location
3DGT Lowestoft
Project type
Replacement Part
Date
April 2025
This project allowed me to not only just recreate a part but to redesign specifically for 3D printing. It is a replacement part for an Amstrad 7070 cassette player, the original part had broken on one side and had been repaired but was likely to break again. The customer wanted a replacement that would be as strong as or if possible stronger than the original. The original had been made by injection moulding which meant certain voids in the part were either to reduce plastic cost or to make it easier to release from the mould but they had no real use in the part itself. Because of this I could split the part into 3 pieces and use the extra space to put threaded inserts in to create a strong join between the parts. Having the part in 3 pieces meant that the front plate could be printed with a nice textured effect to the front and the side could be printed with an orientation that gave them maximum strength. They were then fitted together using stainless steel counter sink bolts for a nice finish. The customer was very happy with this design and the whole project overall.
