Scaled up models

This project started with a customer bringing us a couple of models they’d found online and asking if we could turn them into large garden ornaments. The original files were designed to be around 6 cm tall, but the customer wanted them scaled up significantly for outdoor display.

Once we’d agreed the final sizes, the next step was to slice the scaled-up models into sections that would fit on our printers and could be reassembled afterwards.

The first model was relatively straightforward: it only needed a single cut and was printed in two parts. Once assembled, it stood around 43 cm tall and 25 cm wide, with a total combined print time of 1 day and 2 hours.

The second model was more complex. It had to be split into eight pieces and printed in six separate runs, with a total combined print time of 1 day and 16 hours. When assembled, it stood around 40 cm high and 27 cm wide.

In total, the project took five days to complete, with printing spread over four days and a final day spent on post-processing and assembly. The end result: two large, eye-catching garden ornaments created from customer-supplied models, scaled and printed to a much bigger, display-ready size.
